What to Pack for the W Trek (Without Overpacking)
By Lucas Mendez · April 28, 2026 · 6 min read
Layers, trail shoes, and the one item everyone forgets — tested on the Torres del Paine circuit.
Patagonia weather doesn't negotiate. You'll see four seasons in a single valley, sometimes before lunch.
Start with a breathable base layer, a fleece mid-layer, and a waterproof shell you trust with your life. Merino wool socks — two pairs, rotate and dry overnight.
Trail runners beat heavy boots for the W Trek's maintained paths, unless you need ankle support. Break them in at home, not at Base Torres.
The forgotten item? A dry bag for electronics. Refugio dorm nights are cozy; condensation is real.
